Jazz Improvisation
Jazz improvisation research explores the creative process of spontaneous music-making, focusing on understanding and modeling the complex interplay between musicians and their environment. Current investigations leverage machine learning, particularly recurrent neural networks and transformers, to generate musical accompaniment, predict improvisational patterns, and even evaluate the quality of co-creative interactions using information-theoretic measures. This work has implications for both artistic applications, such as developing AI-powered musical instruments and collaborative performance systems, and scientific understanding of human creativity and cognitive processes.
