K Plane
K-Planes, or more broadly, the research area of planar reconstruction, focuses on efficiently and accurately identifying and representing planar surfaces within 3D scenes from various data sources, including images and videos. Current research emphasizes the development of deep learning models, often employing transformer networks or neural radiance fields (NeRFs), to achieve robust and real-time performance in tasks such as plane detection, segmentation, and reconstruction. These advancements have significant implications for applications ranging from robotic surgery planning and fetal ultrasound navigation to scene understanding in augmented and virtual reality. The ultimate goal is to create accurate and computationally efficient representations of 3D environments based on planar primitives.
