Language Technology
Language technology (LT) aims to develop computational tools that understand, process, and generate human language, focusing on improving communication and access to information across diverse linguistic groups. Current research emphasizes addressing biases in existing models, particularly those stemming from socio-economic disparities, cultural insensitivity, and the overrepresentation of high-resource languages, often employing transformer-based architectures like BERT and large language models (LLMs). This work is crucial for creating more equitable and inclusive technologies, impacting fields ranging from healthcare and education to cultural preservation and combating misinformation.
