Large Deformation
Large deformation modeling focuses on accurately representing and predicting significant shape changes in various systems, from soft robots and medical images to 3D-printed structures. Current research emphasizes data-driven approaches, employing neural networks (including convolutional and graph neural networks) and reinforcement learning algorithms like Actor-Critic methods to learn complex deformation models, often overcoming limitations of traditional physics-based simulations. These advancements are crucial for improving medical image registration, enabling more precise robotic manipulation of deformable objects, and facilitating the design of novel materials and structures with tailored mechanical properties.
