Laser Surgery

Laser surgery aims to improve precision and minimize collateral damage during tissue ablation by using lasers instead of mechanical tools. Current research focuses on developing robotic systems with advanced control algorithms, such as model predictive control and deep learning (including convolutional neural networks), to optimize laser parameters and predict ablation cavity shapes in real-time, guided by data-driven models and acoustic wave analysis for tissue classification. This work is significant because it promises to enhance surgical accuracy, reduce invasiveness, and improve patient outcomes across various surgical specialties, from neurosurgery to gynecology.
