Legal Language Model
Legal language models (LLMs) are AI systems designed to understand and process legal text, aiming to automate tasks like compliance assessment, data de-identification, and legal document summarization. Current research focuses on developing specialized LLMs trained on large legal datasets, employing architectures like BERT and Longformer, and exploring both pretraining from scratch and fine-tuning pre-existing models for optimal performance. These models hold significant potential for improving efficiency and accuracy in legal practice, impacting areas such as data privacy, legal research, and contract drafting, while also providing valuable benchmarks for evaluating NLP capabilities in specialized domains.
