Lewy Body

Lewy body diseases (LBDs), including dementia with Lewy bodies, are neurodegenerative conditions characterized by the abnormal accumulation of alpha-synuclein protein in brain cells. Current research focuses on improving early diagnosis of LBDs, particularly in their prodromal stages, using novel methods such as analyzing subtle motor impairments (e.g., balance, handwriting) through machine learning algorithms. These efforts aim to enhance diagnostic accuracy, differentiating LBDs from other dementias like Alzheimer's disease, ultimately leading to earlier interventions and improved patient care.
