LiDAR Calibration
LiDAR calibration focuses on accurately determining the spatial relationship between LiDAR sensors and other sensors, such as cameras or other LiDAR units, crucial for effective sensor fusion in applications like autonomous driving. Current research emphasizes automated, targetless calibration methods, employing deep learning architectures (e.g., transformers, CNNs) and algorithms based on geometric constraints, point cloud registration (ICP and its variants, GMM-based registration), or mutual information maximization to achieve precise and robust alignment. Accurate LiDAR calibration is essential for improving the reliability and safety of autonomous systems by enabling more accurate and comprehensive environmental perception.
