Lidar Map
LiDAR maps are three-dimensional representations of environments generated from LiDAR point cloud data, primarily used for autonomous navigation and mapping applications. Current research focuses on developing efficient and scalable map representations, often employing techniques like structural parameterization (lines and planes), volumetric upsampling, and cross-modal integration with camera images or radar data to improve accuracy, reduce memory consumption, and enhance robustness in various conditions. These advancements are crucial for improving the performance and reliability of autonomous systems in diverse environments, from urban areas to archaeological sites, and are driving the development of new algorithms and open-source tools for LiDAR data processing and map creation.
