Listening Effort
Listening effort (LE) research investigates the cognitive and perceptual demands of understanding speech, particularly in challenging acoustic conditions. Current studies explore LE through various methods, including subjective rating scales, objective measures correlating with intelligibility (like the Gammachirp Envelope Similarity Index), and analysis of listener behaviors such as head movements during dyadic interactions. This research is crucial for improving speech enhancement technologies, designing more effective hearing aids, and developing more human-centered AI systems that account for listener comprehension and preferences.
