Material Map
Material mapping research focuses on automatically generating and manipulating realistic material representations for 3D objects and scenes, streamlining the creation of digital assets for various applications. Current efforts leverage deep learning, particularly diffusion models and generative adversarial networks (GANs), often incorporating multimodal conditioning (e.g., text, images, sketches) to achieve fine-grained control over material properties and appearance. This work is significant for accelerating 3D content creation, enabling more efficient and realistic rendering in fields like gaming, film, and virtual/augmented reality, as well as advancing circular economy initiatives through improved material identification and sorting in waste management.
