Material Point Method

The Material Point Method (MPM) is a mesh-free Lagrangian numerical technique used to simulate the behavior of deformable materials, particularly in scenarios involving large deformations and topological changes. Current research focuses on improving MPM's efficiency and accuracy through hybrid approaches combining it with neural networks (e.g., NeuralMPM) and graph neural networks (GNS), as well as developing more robust contact models and extending its application to diverse areas like robotics and variational inference. These advancements are significantly impacting fields such as robotics simulation, computer graphics, and scientific computing by enabling faster, more accurate, and more versatile simulations of complex physical phenomena.
