Medical Dialogue System

Medical dialogue systems (MDS) aim to create AI-powered conversational agents that can effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals, improving access to care and efficiency. Current research heavily utilizes large language models (LLMs), often enhanced with multimodal capabilities (integrating images and text) and incorporating techniques like reinforcement learning and in-context learning to improve dialogue quality and alignment with clinical best practices. A key challenge is generating realistic and medically accurate training data, leading to exploration of synthetic data generation and novel evaluation metrics. The ultimate goal is to develop MDS that are reliable, safe, and capable of assisting in various clinical tasks, from diagnosis support to patient education.
