Mental Health Counseling

Mental health counseling research is increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence, particularly large language models (LLMs), to improve efficiency and accessibility of care. Current efforts focus on developing LLMs capable of summarizing counseling sessions, generating empathetic responses, and automatically evaluating session quality, often employing techniques like chain-of-thought prompting and reinforcement learning. These advancements aim to address the global mental health crisis by providing cost-effective and scalable support, potentially augmenting the work of human therapists and expanding access to care. However, challenges remain in ensuring accuracy, mitigating bias, and addressing ethical concerns related to AI in this sensitive domain.
