Multiplane Image

Multiplane images (MPIs) represent 3D scenes as stacks of 2D layers, offering an efficient and effective alternative to other 3D scene representations for novel view synthesis. Current research focuses on improving MPI generation from sparse or single-view inputs, enhancing rendering speed and quality through techniques like hierarchical representations, tiled structures, and adaptive depth plane adjustment, often incorporating neural networks such as transformers and GANs. This approach holds significant promise for applications in virtual and augmented reality, 3D photography, and remote sensing, particularly where efficient rendering and handling of complex scenes are crucial.
