Narrative Theory
Narrative theory research explores the computational modeling of narrative structure and comprehension, aiming to understand how stories are generated, understood, and evaluated. Current work focuses on developing and evaluating large language models (LLMs) for tasks such as story generation, summarization, and analogy-making, often incorporating narrative theory principles to improve model performance and assess their understanding of nuanced aspects like subtext and emotional impact. This research contributes to both theoretical advancements in understanding narrative structure and practical applications in areas like automated storytelling, content creation, and sentiment analysis in economic contexts, where differentiating approach and avoidance motivations is proving crucial.
