Native Speaker
The concept of "native speaker" is being re-evaluated in light of advancements in artificial intelligence and language processing. Current research focuses on how native speaker status impacts interactions with large language models (LLMs), revealing biases in model performance and prompting strategies, and exploring the use of LLMs to evaluate and even simulate native-like speech. This work highlights the complexities of defining and measuring native-speaker proficiency, with implications for language learning technologies, cross-cultural communication, and the development of more equitable and accurate AI systems.
