Online Hate

Online hate, encompassing hate speech, misinformation, and toxic behavior, is a significant societal problem exacerbated by social media, with research aiming to develop effective detection and mitigation strategies. Current research focuses on improving automated detection using multimodal approaches (combining text, images, and audio) and advanced language models like BERT and GPT, often incorporating techniques like chain-of-thought prompting and attention regularization to enhance accuracy and contextual understanding. This work is crucial for creating safer online environments and informing interventions, but faces challenges including language diversity, evolving forms of hate, and the need for robust, explainable, and culturally sensitive models.
