Open Domain Conversation
Open-domain conversation aims to create AI systems capable of engaging in natural, free-flowing dialogue on any topic, unlike task-specific chatbots. Current research focuses on improving the fluency, coherence, and factual accuracy of these conversations, often employing large language models (LLMs) enhanced by techniques like chain-of-thought prompting, retrieval-augmented generation, and reinforcement learning from human feedback. These advancements are significant because they could lead to more engaging and helpful AI assistants across various applications, from customer service to education and mental healthcare, while also advancing our understanding of human-computer interaction and natural language processing.
