Open Radio Access Network

Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) is a revolutionary architecture for mobile networks aiming to improve efficiency, flexibility, and vendor diversity through open interfaces and AI-driven control. Current research heavily focuses on applying machine learning, particularly reinforcement learning and deep learning (including variations like federated and evolutionary RL, and models such as LSTM and transformers), to optimize resource allocation, predict network behavior (like handovers and traffic), and mitigate conflicts between different network applications (xApps). This work holds significant importance for both the scientific community, advancing AI techniques in dynamic network environments, and for practical applications, promising substantial cost savings and improved network performance in 5G and beyond.
