Optical Measurement
Optical measurement techniques are being refined to achieve more accurate and efficient 3D imaging and analysis of diverse surfaces, from specular objects to complex internal structures. Current research emphasizes developing robust algorithms, including those based on deep learning (e.g., VoxelMorph) and improved image registration methods, to overcome challenges like surface irregularities and variations in imaging modalities. These advancements are crucial for improving quality control in manufacturing (e.g., precise coaxiality measurements of drill bits), advancing medical procedures (e.g., robotic surgery guided by real-time optical measurements), and enhancing autonomous driving systems by mitigating the effects of optical aberrations introduced by windshields.
