Optimal Beacon
Optimal beacon placement and design is a burgeoning research area focusing on minimizing localization error and maximizing information efficiency across diverse applications, from indoor drone navigation to CO2 sequestration monitoring. Current research employs Bayesian optimization, submodular set function maximization, and evolutionary algorithms to optimize beacon placement, while also exploring novel beacon designs leveraging ultrasound, LEDs, and fiducial markers. These advancements improve the accuracy and efficiency of localization systems, impacting fields ranging from robotics and environmental monitoring to improved user interfaces for voice assistants and mobile devices.
