Orbit servicing, the on-orbit repair, refueling, and upgrade of satellites, aims to extend satellite lifespan and reduce space debris. Current research heavily emphasizes autonomous robotic systems, employing computer vision (including convolutional neural networks and novel 3D reconstruction techniques like Gaussian splatting and NeRF) and reinforcement learning for tasks such as rendezvous, docking, manipulation, and collision avoidance. These advancements are crucial for enabling more sustainable and cost-effective space operations, impacting both scientific exploration and commercial satellite industries.
