Photonic Chip
Photonic chips are integrated circuits designed to perform computations using light instead of electricity, aiming to overcome limitations of traditional electronic computing in speed and energy efficiency. Current research focuses on developing photonic neural networks for machine learning tasks, employing architectures like Mach-Zehnder interferometer meshes and microring resonators, often incorporating data-driven models and algorithms like backpropagation and transfer learning to address challenges such as thermal crosstalk and data scarcity. This technology holds significant promise for accelerating various applications, including financial modeling, drug discovery, and large-scale data processing, by offering substantial improvements in both computational speed and energy consumption compared to electronic counterparts.
