Physically Based Differentiable Rendering

Physically Based Differentiable Rendering (PBR) aims to create realistic computer-generated images while simultaneously allowing for efficient gradient-based optimization of scene parameters from images. Current research focuses on improving the accuracy and efficiency of PBR for complex scenes, often employing neural implicit representations like signed distance functions (SDFs) or point clouds, and incorporating advanced techniques like Monte Carlo ray tracing and BRDF decomposition for handling diverse materials and lighting conditions. This allows for applications such as high-fidelity 3D reconstruction from multiple images, realistic relighting of scenes, and improved material estimation, impacting fields like computer vision, computer graphics, and virtual reality.
