Pill Recognition

Pill recognition research focuses on automatically identifying pills from images, aiming to improve medication safety and accessibility, particularly for visually impaired individuals and in healthcare settings. Current efforts leverage deep learning, employing architectures like YOLO and incorporating techniques such as few-shot learning and class-incremental learning to handle the large number of pill variations and the continuous introduction of new medications. Researchers are also exploring multimodal data fusion, incorporating contextual information (e.g., from prescriptions) and graph neural networks to enhance accuracy and address challenges like multi-pill detection and visually similar pills. These advancements hold significant promise for reducing medication errors and improving patient care.
