Pivot Translation
Pivot translation leverages a third "pivot" language to translate between two languages with limited or no direct parallel data, addressing the challenges of low-resource machine translation and zero-shot learning. Current research focuses on improving the accuracy and efficiency of pivot-based systems, exploring ensemble methods, meta-graph prompting with large language models, and techniques to mitigate error propagation and linguistic drift. These advancements are significant for expanding multilingual machine translation capabilities, particularly for low-resource languages, and have implications for various applications including cross-lingual image and video captioning and even linguistic steganography.
