Plain Language
Plain language summarization (PLS) aims to transform complex technical texts, particularly in high-stakes domains like medicine, into easily understandable summaries for non-expert audiences. Current research focuses on evaluating the factuality and simplification achieved by large language models (LLMs) like GPT-3 and others, developing new metrics to assess these aspects, and creating interactive interfaces that integrate PLS with original research papers. This work is crucial for improving access to scientific information and empowering individuals to make informed decisions based on evidence-based research, particularly in healthcare.
