Plane Wave Imaging

Plane wave imaging (PWI) is an ultrafast ultrasound technique aiming to improve image quality and frame rates by using fewer transmitted waves compared to conventional methods. Current research focuses on mitigating artifacts and noise inherent in PWI using deep learning approaches, including denoising diffusion probabilistic models, implicit neural representations, and vision transformers, often integrated with traditional beamforming techniques. These advancements enhance image quality, particularly in single plane wave acquisitions, leading to improved diagnostic capabilities and potentially enabling new clinical applications in medical ultrasound. The development of resource-efficient models is also a key focus, facilitating deployment on resource-constrained devices.
