Plastic Bag
Plastic pollution, particularly from ubiquitous plastic bags, is a significant environmental problem, driving research focused on detection, removal, and replacement. Current efforts utilize machine learning, employing various deep learning architectures like YOLOv5 and random forests, to analyze imagery (aerial, satellite, and microscopic) for efficient identification and quantification of plastic debris across scales, from microplastics to larger litter. These advancements aim to improve monitoring, cleanup strategies, and the development of biodegradable alternatives, ultimately contributing to more effective environmental management and pollution mitigation.
