Current research focuses on improving robustness and efficiency, exploring various model architectures including deep learning approaches (e.g., transformers, graph neural networks), and leveraging geometric and semantic information for feature extraction and correspondence matching. These advancements are driving improvements in applications such as 3D scene reconstruction, object manipulation, and LiDAR-based localization, particularly in challenging scenarios with noise, outliers, and low overlap.
