Political Stance

Political stance detection aims to automatically identify the political leaning of text, such as news articles or speeches, a crucial task with applications in social science and beyond. Current research focuses on improving accuracy by incorporating metadata like author affiliation and leveraging topic modeling techniques alongside sentiment analysis, surpassing reliance on sentiment alone. Advanced models, including hierarchical attention networks and knowledge-aware approaches, are being developed to better capture nuanced contextual information and external knowledge, leading to more robust and accurate stance classification. This work has implications for understanding media bias, analyzing political discourse, and mitigating the spread of misinformation.
