Population Map

Population mapping aims to create high-resolution maps of population density, crucial for diverse applications from urban planning to humanitarian aid. Current research focuses on leveraging readily available satellite imagery (e.g., Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2) combined with deep learning models (including Siamese networks and other encoder-decoder architectures) and limited census data to generate accurate population estimates, even in data-scarce regions. These advanced techniques improve upon previous methods by incorporating land-use information and handling temporal population changes, leading to more precise and timely population distributions. The resulting maps offer valuable insights for resource allocation, policy decisions, and improved understanding of population dynamics globally.
