Precision Pollination
Precision pollination focuses on developing automated systems to replace or supplement natural pollinators, addressing declining pollinator populations and ensuring consistent crop yields. Current research emphasizes robotic systems incorporating computer vision for flower detection and targeted pollen delivery, utilizing various manipulator designs and algorithms like YOLOv5 for object detection and dynamic Bayesian networks for decision support in pollinator management. These advancements aim to improve crop production efficiency and sustainability, particularly in high-value crops like apples and strawberries, while also providing valuable data for understanding pollinator behavior and ecosystem health.
