Prefix Tuning

Prefix tuning is a parameter-efficient fine-tuning method for large pre-trained language models (LLMs) that optimizes a small set of "prefix" vectors prepended to input sequences, leaving the main model frozen. Current research focuses on improving the theoretical understanding of prefix tuning's effectiveness, exploring its application across diverse tasks (e.g., visual storytelling, speech recognition, and knowledge-grounded dialogue), and addressing challenges like robustness to noisy data and efficient adaptation to multiple domains. This technique offers significant advantages in terms of computational cost and storage compared to full fine-tuning, making it a valuable tool for adapting LLMs to various downstream tasks with limited resources.
