Propagation Delay

Propagation delay, the time it takes for a signal to travel between two points, is a critical factor impacting various communication systems, from satellite networks to underwater acoustic sensors. Current research focuses on mitigating the negative effects of delay through improved signal processing techniques, such as AI/ML-based receivers and asynchronous federated learning algorithms, and by developing novel models that explicitly incorporate delay into their design, including graph convolutional networks and time-varying graph representations. Addressing propagation delay is crucial for enhancing the efficiency and reliability of diverse communication technologies, improving data transmission in challenging environments, and enabling real-time applications in areas like satellite constellations and flight delay prediction.
