Pyramidal Neuron
Pyramidal neurons, a major neuron type in the brain's cortex, are the focus of intense research due to their complex dendritic structures and crucial role in information processing and learning. Current research emphasizes the active role of dendrites in integrating diverse inputs – including feedback, local, and global contextual information – to modulate signal transmission and enable efficient continual learning. This is explored through computational models, such as two-compartment spiking neuron models and context-dependent leaky integrate-and-fire (LIF) neurons, often implemented in hardware for efficient real-world applications like image recognition. Understanding these mechanisms holds significant promise for advancing artificial neural networks and improving our understanding of brain function.
