Raga Identification
Raga identification, the automated recognition of melodic frameworks in Indian classical music, is a growing area of research in music information retrieval. Current efforts focus on developing robust deep learning models, including recurrent neural networks (like LSTMs) and convolutional neural networks, often incorporating techniques to handle variations in musical performance (e.g., shruti). These models are trained and evaluated on increasingly large datasets of labeled audio, with a strong emphasis on improving accuracy and understanding how these algorithms achieve their results, often through explainability techniques. Successful raga identification systems could significantly improve music organization, recommendation systems, and scholarly analysis of Indian classical music.
