Rat image analysis is a rapidly evolving field leveraging machine learning to extract behavioral and physiological information from various data modalities, including video, electrocorticography (ECoG), and ultrasonic vocalizations. Current research focuses on developing robust and efficient algorithms, such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs like LSTMs), for tasks like body part segmentation, keypoint detection, pain assessment, and seizure detection. These advancements are significantly impacting preclinical research by enabling automated, high-throughput analysis of animal behavior and physiology, ultimately accelerating drug discovery and improving our understanding of neurological processes.
