Robot Assisted Feeding
Robot-assisted feeding aims to improve the independence and quality of life for individuals with eating disabilities by using robotic systems to deliver food. Current research focuses on enhancing the robots' ability to handle diverse food types and bowl configurations, employing techniques like imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and contextual bandit algorithms to improve food acquisition and transfer strategies. This involves developing robust perception systems, adaptable manipulation skills (including bimanual approaches and novel utensil designs), and human-centered interfaces that prioritize both efficiency and user comfort and safety, ultimately impacting assistive technology and healthcare.
