Robot Sound
Robot sound design is emerging as a crucial area of research focusing on how robots' auditory output impacts human-robot interaction and perception. Current efforts explore both modifying inherent robot sounds ("consequential sounds") to convey information or enhance user experience, and creating entirely new soundscapes, such as mapping robot movements to music, to influence user perception of the robot's capabilities and likeability. These studies highlight the importance of considering auditory cues for improving robot detectability in noisy environments and shaping positive human-robot relationships. The findings have implications for designing more intuitive and socially acceptable robots for various applications, from healthcare assistance to shared workspaces.
