Safe Corridor

Safe corridors, a series of overlapping convex shapes defining navigable space for robots and autonomous vehicles, are central to efficient and safe motion planning, particularly in complex or uncertain environments. Current research emphasizes computationally efficient algorithms, such as those based on deep reinforcement learning, graph theory, and modified visibility graphs, to generate and utilize these corridors for trajectory optimization, often incorporating obstacle avoidance and robustness to uncertainty in perception. This work is significant for improving the autonomy and safety of various robotic systems, from automated guided vehicles in industrial settings to unmanned aerial vehicles navigating cluttered environments, and for enhancing emergency response times through coordinated traffic management.
