Saliency Information
Saliency information, representing the visually prominent aspects of an image or video, is crucial for improving various computer vision tasks. Current research focuses on leveraging saliency for enhanced model performance and interpretability, employing techniques like Grad-CAM++ and SmoothGrad to generate saliency maps and exploring how different architectures (e.g., ResNets, ViTs) process this information. This work is significant because it improves the efficiency and accuracy of applications such as object detection, video summarization, and medical image analysis, while also furthering our understanding of how both artificial and biological visual systems process information.
