Satellite Altimetry
Satellite altimetry uses radar signals to measure sea surface height (SSH), providing crucial data for understanding ocean dynamics and sea level change. Current research focuses on improving the accuracy and resolution of altimetry data through advanced signal processing techniques like convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for interference mitigation and deep learning models (e.g., diffusion models, 4DVarNets) for data interpolation and downscaling to resolve finer spatial scales. These advancements are significantly enhancing our ability to monitor ocean processes, from mesoscale eddies to internal solitary waves, and improve sea level rise predictions, impacting climate modeling and coastal management.
