Self Knowledge
Self-knowledge, the ability of a system to understand its own capabilities and limitations, is a burgeoning area of research, particularly within the context of artificial intelligence. Current investigations focus on evaluating and improving self-knowledge in large language models (LLMs) and other AI systems through novel evaluation frameworks and techniques like adaptive label smoothing and self-knowledge guided regularization. These efforts aim to enhance the reliability, robustness, and trustworthiness of AI systems by addressing issues such as overconfidence and the misalignment between a model's perceived and actual competence. The development of more self-aware AI has significant implications for improving the safety and effectiveness of AI applications across various domains.
