Semantic Change Detection
Semantic change detection focuses on identifying and characterizing how word meanings evolve over time or across different contexts, and how land cover changes over time in satellite imagery. Current research emphasizes developing novel model architectures, including transformers and state-space models, to improve accuracy and efficiency, particularly in handling multi-modal data (e.g., combining satellite imagery and maps) and addressing challenges like domain shift. This field is crucial for various applications, from historical linguistics and cultural studies to environmental monitoring and disaster response, offering valuable insights into dynamic systems and informing decision-making.
