Shape Morphing

Shape morphing research focuses on developing methods to dynamically alter the three-dimensional form of objects or materials, driven by diverse stimuli and control mechanisms. Current efforts concentrate on improving control precision through deep learning techniques applied to point cloud data and mesh representations, as well as developing novel material architectures like hierarchical origami and kirigami structures, and integrating advanced actuation methods such as magnetic fields and electroadhesion. These advancements hold significant promise for applications in soft robotics, creating adaptable devices for human-machine interfaces and minimally invasive surgery, and also for the development of advanced metamaterials with programmable functionalities.
