Ship Instance Segmentation
Ship instance segmentation aims to automatically identify and delineate individual ships within images, crucial for improving maritime situational awareness and management. Current research focuses on developing robust deep learning models, often adapting architectures like YOLO and incorporating attention mechanisms and multi-scale feature extraction to handle variations in ship size, appearance, and imaging conditions (e.g., optical cameras, satellite, and sonar imagery). These advancements are driving progress in real-time ship detection, georeferencing, and automated assessment of ship conditions, impacting both maritime safety and operational efficiency.
