Sideslip Angle
Sideslip angle, the angle between a vehicle's longitudinal axis and its actual path, is a crucial parameter for vehicle dynamics and control, particularly in advanced driving assistance systems and autonomous driving. Current research focuses on accurately estimating this often-unmeasurable quantity using diverse methods, including integrating LiDAR odometry with tire models, employing hybrid observer architectures combining model-based estimation with neural networks, and utilizing Unscented Kalman Filters (UKFs) often optimized through Bayesian techniques. Accurate sideslip angle estimation is vital for enhancing vehicle stability, improving the performance of control systems (e.g., for automated drifting or trailer backing), and ensuring safe and graceful autonomous navigation.
