Signal Peptide
Signal peptides are short amino acid sequences at the beginning of proteins that direct their transport to specific cellular locations, such as the cell membrane or outside the cell. Current research focuses on improving computational prediction of signal peptides, employing deep learning models like transformer networks and graph neural networks to analyze protein sequences and structures, addressing challenges like data imbalance and species-specific biases. These advancements enable faster and more efficient identification of signal peptides in large datasets, facilitating protein engineering and the design of novel proteins with tailored properties for various applications.
